چکیده

Fuel cells are receiving widespread attention as an alternate source for clean energy, and one of the most important developments are proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) which operate using hydrogen at low temperatures. In the U.S., there is a considerable effort underway to develop H2 as the preferred fuel due to the potential for decreasing our dependence on imported oil, and the environmental benefits. Due to the difficulties associated with hydrogen storage, it will likely be generated in the near term on an as needed basis by reforming fuels like natural gas, methanol, gasoline, and LPG. Reforming hydrocarbon fuels will still produce CO2, but it is perceived that levels will be reduced due to the improved efficiency of the PEM fuel cell over the internal combustion engine. In the future, when carbon capture/ sequestration technology, as well as H2 delivery infrastructure, are in place, H2 may be generated not only from conventional fossil fuels, but also from biomass, coal gasification, and other sources (e.g., wind, solar, and nuclear).

Limiting and Experimental Factors

Practical applications of phytoremediation are essential for the clean-up of moderately and severely contaminated sites in an economical and environmentally responsible way. The usage of plants to do a job that would otherwise be done by chemicals or energy intensive soil removal is a natural choice on several levels. First, by using plants for clean-up, pollutants are being absorbed by nature ...

Performance of Co-Mo/Al2O3 Nano Catalyst for CAMERE Process in a Batch Reactor

The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing continuously. Its accumulation in the air is one of the major causes of global warming and the change at equilibrium condition of weather and the environment. Utilization of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to produce useful chemicals could be a suitable solution to this problem. CO2 is not just a greenhouse gas, but also an ...

Near-frictionless Carbon Coatings for Use in Fuel Injectors and Pump Systems Operating with Low-sulfur Diesel Fuels

While sulfir in diesel fuels helps reduce friction and prevents wear and galling in fuel pump and injector systems, it also creates environmental pollution in the form of hazardous particulate and S02 emissions. The environmental concern is the driving force behind industry’s efforts to come up with new alternative approaches to this problem. One such approach is to replace sulfur in diesel fue...

Particle suspension reactors and materials for solar-driven water splitting

Reactors based on particle suspensions for the capture, conversion, storage, and use of solar energy as H 2 are projected to be cost-competitive with fossil fuels. In light of this, this review paper summarizes state-of-the-art particle light absorbers and cocatalysts as suspensions (photocatalysts) that demonstrate visible-light-driven water splitting on the laboratory scale. Also presented ar...

Upgrading the Glycerol from Biodiesel Production as a Source of Energy Carriers and Chemicals— A Technological Review for Three Chemical Pathways

Glycerol is a by-product of biodiesel obtained from biomass, accounting for 10% of the biodiesel production. In the context of a green economy, aiming for a reduction of the emission of atmospheric greenhouse gases emissions, the demand of biodiesel is expected to increase vastly, in parallel with a side glut supply of glycerol. Given the high cost of biodiesel compared with its fossil congener...
